Our Beginning
Born from
a bold ambition

ManoMano was born from a bold ambition: to digitalise the traditional and not very innovative DIY and gardening sectors where everyone swore that drills or lawnmowers couldn’t be sold anywhere but in specialised shops.

 

And yet, we did it.

 

We created the largest online selective marketplace in our industry.

Like you, 50 million people visit the ManoMano website each month.

Like you, they love our wide range, competitive prices and (very) good advice.

 

Today, we want to help you improve your home in a responsible and sustainable way. We want to give you the tools and the means to take care of your needs and the environment at the same time.

Because, like you, we want to look after our home.

But we prefer to do DIY and gardening while respecting the planet.

We all have something to gain.

After all, the Earth is our first home.

How it
all started
Boldness and Flair

ManoMano began with the boldness and flair of two entrepreneurs, Christian Raisson and Philippe de Chanville. In 2013, they decided to focus on the DIY industry. After all, as DIY enthusiasts, they knew the sector well and firmly believed that they could carve out a place in the market. A place for a digital, modern, accessible and people-centric model. So, in the face of the sceptics who thought that “digital” and “human” were contradictory terms, they held their ground and built a truly people-based project. Their vision would later be brought to life by a dedicated team with strong values, shared by all our partners and, in particular, our sellers. 

Failing to bounce back

Their first website around a single generalist retailer never got off the ground, but that didn’t stop them! Christian and Philippe went back to the drawing board, surrounded themselves with the right people and created a new platform that showcased ten sellers specialising in different product types. And thus the concept of the selective marketplace was born. Six months later, they celebrated their first million euros in sales.

A European project

Very quickly, ManoMano expanded beyond France’s borders into Belgium (2014), Spain and Italy (2015), and then Germany and the UK (2016). Today, nearly 40% of our business volume is generated abroad. And we don’t intend to stop there!

Making Professionals’ life easier

In 2019, we launched our B2B platform, ManoManoPro, with the goal of revolutionising the purchasing process for tradespeople, particularly the smaller companies that traditional distribution models don’t cater for. ManoManoPro is now also making life easier for professionals in France, Spain, Italy and the UK.

Growing without forgetting our roots

ManoMano is growing fast… very fast! But our founding values are still the same and are growing with us. ManoMano is first and foremost an adventure that calls for boldness and ingenuity on a daily basis. It is also a responsible project for both people and the planet. And we are so proud to see these values embodied by our 1,000 motivated and multi-talented Manas and Manos, as well as our partner sellers as they grow with us.

How it

Philippe is one of ManoMano’s 2 founders. Just like for Christian, it all started with a personal experience: renovating an apartment for his family without the help of the internet. Which involved endless weekend trips to different shops and suppliers in the region, in order to find the right products, colours, or tap size.

Firm in the belief that he wanted to build a project with people at its heart, Philippe was, and still is, committed to making ManoMano a diverse place where everyone is welcome. A place where anyone, no matter their background, can (re)build their career and skills with us.

Not one to like wasting time in shops (or anywhere else), Christian soon found a way to save time through digital technologies.

Christian strongly believes that we need to invent more responsible ways of buying to limit our impact on the environment. So over the past 10 years, he’s been getting our partners on board one by one to make this project a reality and enable you to take better care of your home and the planet at the same time.
